When parents say that they have tried everything , it really amazes me !!!!
Seriously parents !!!! Is it absolutely true ???
Or is it that you have tried everything from your perception and expected results without looking beyond your perspective or options of a problem:)
Let's say Parents feel that their kids are nor reading at all and they want to turn it around ?
So what all steps are taken generally :)
It's generally nagging,praise or threat or incentive or punishment in any form .
When a child is watching tv , we tell them to go and read and if they don't then we say if you don't read then you are not going to friends house.
But Hey , wait a minute .
Let's do a better diagnosis and see the situation from different perspective :))
Who do these children see reading ?
Do they see elder reading at home?
What about the environment ?Look around and see closely if we have created environment, given importance ,designed around the house to support reading or is it couches ,sofas& chairs aimed directly to a big screen tv taking central space in our houses.
What if we create a quiet corner with good light,nice book shelf and nice books.books. What if we structured the environment not only to motivate but to enable as well.
Change works best when we bring all the influential sources to bear on the problem.
We often just are not aware or don't see or use all the possible options and perspectives to explore
And we just give up saying that we have tried everything :))))
